Asawei's experimentation was focused on what is known as the ‘Lateral Line’ of a shark, an internal mutation which reads electrical impulses. This allows Asawei to pick up on emotions, presences and fleeting surface thoughts of nearby individuals. He isn't able to grasp much, though; for example, he can tell if a person is feeling depressed, but can't tell what exactly they are depressed about.

Due to an eel organ implanted in him, Asawei can also give off a maximum of 500 sum volts at any given time; a non-lethal, but still painful dose capable of causing burns, numbness and even unconsciousness. He has complete control of this ability, but sometimes discharges an electric shock on accident; similar to static electricity shocks with varying strengths. Because of this, he avoids touching and standing too near to people, putting him off as distant, when really he’s just looking out that he doesn't accidentally hurt anyone.

Asawei has a very unique 'sixth sense'. Despite being legally blind, he "see's" everything through electrical currents in live wires, lights, the air, people, etc; which illuminate his otherwise dark world.

Weaknesses:
Asawei is completely blind. Although, his ability to sense electrical currents and charges mostly makes up for it.This makes him out to be somewhat clumsy, as locations lacking in electrical sources leave him completely blind. [ex: power outages, lack of people, natural terrain, etc renders him completely blind]. With this in mind, He cannot watch TV or use computers and most electrical devices at all, but he can read some brail.

Unless Asawei releases an electrical charge from time to time, the build up tends to give him severe migraines. On a similar subject, he tends to shock people on accident, similarly to a discharge of static electricity. Due to this, he avoids shaking hands when greeting people, or touching people at all unless absolutely necessary.

Being old is one of his greatest weakness', in and of itself. He cannot lift much more than 80 pounds and has very brittle bones. Needless to say, he's rather slow paced, but then he's never been in any hurry for anything either. To say the least, Asawei was never a fighter.

Personality:
Asawei is a man of faith and belief. He never sees things from a negative point of view and has always been the guiding hand where ever he’d go. Though he is quite distant from most of the people he surrounds himself with, Asa is a terribly sympathetic and supportive character, shining his good will down on others and lifting spirits with kind words and an understanding smile.

There's nothing terribly interesting to Asa's history, or so he would tell you. There is certainly much for him to share, though, if you can get him to speak his mind of himself. He strongly believes he can communicate with the dead and foretell the future. That he can touch a persons soul and cleanse it of darkness, and suck the sickness right out of the sick and dying. Being a true servant of the shamanistic faith, it may not be far from the truth, if not a slightly stretched one. But he was not always very wise and fortunate.

When Asa was a young man, his family was poor and worked in the Zimbabwe coal mines. Because of low wages and poor equipment, Asawei's father was infected by his lifelong exposure to coal dust and died of 'black lung'. Asawei would later go blind and grow sick from similar exposure. Hindered useless for work by his handicap, his mother sold custody of him to a foreign doctor, who wanted to use Asawei as a study subject to develop a 'cure' for Black Lung. Although Asawei had no choice in the matter, he respected his mothers decision; because it meant his family would be fed, and he'd be taken care of by good doctors.

Taken away to a lab in Johannesburg, Asawei was rehabilitated and experimented on in ways he'd never expected. They didn't fix his lung or his eyes; His lungs would forever be scarred by dark patches, but being away from the coal mines ceased the black lung disease progression. These days he's only short of breath now and again. On the other hand, Asawei would come out of treatment with strange new way of seeing things. He could sense electrical activity.

Scientists had tried to make him telepathic by giving him paraphyletic mutations, but only managed to turn Asawei into an electricity seeking stun gun. That's not to say he couldn't read their minds a little, though. After the initial experiments, Asawei always felt uneasy around his doctors. He could feel they weren't telling him everything about his treatments and it made him fearful of their honesty.

Practicing his skills, Asawei discovered a fellow mutant, a young woman with bird wings, who would reveal the truth to him. Together, they escaped the lab, Asawei revealing traps and security while his more experienced company took care of leading them to safety on the outside. Invited to join her on her journey to a special facility for individuals like them, Asawei declined with a different plan in mind. The girl gave him a necklace that contained the location of 'the school' and made Asawei promise to join her someday. Departing, He'd spend his years as a normal human, working hard to provide an underground safe heaven for mutants like himself and developing a shamanistic belief relative to his encounters.

Although he wasn't very good, or very willing, to fight, Asawei is VERY good at sneaking around. And the few erasers he encountered were taken care of by the mutants he housed. Though as Asawei got older, keeping up became harder with each new Eraser encounter, and his movements were becoming more predictable. With the help of old friends and connections, Asawei wrote a letter to the school, requested sanctuary and a job befitting his experience as a counselor.

Interesting Facts:
-Asa tends to ‘talk to himself’ on occasion, sometimes carrying lengthy or casual conversations with absolutely no one.
-Asa is fond of meditating, often clearing empty classrooms to sit in the middle of the floor, or perching on peculiar ledges and mounts.
-He is a fluent bone thrower
-It's uncertain if it's because he's used to having very little to eat, or because of his mutation, but Asawei tends to neglect to feed himself; sometimes so often it looks like self starvation. He's really just very small framed and is quite healthy, otherwise.
-His accent is very thick. _{[so if you don't understand what he is saying in a roleplay, don't worry. He's meant to be difficult to understand, most of the time. ]}
